VOICES .  .  .  FOR  VIRTUAL  LEARNING

“The two classes I have taken online have both been positive experiences.
It (online learning) allowed me to advance my time management and organizational skills.
The independence online courses provide - has helped to prepare me for post secondary education.”
(Student)

"Online courses are vital to students who are trying to recover missed credits, need more time to complete courses,
or are reaching ahead. It allows flexibility to students who may be struggling or unable to attend
regular classes for a variety of issues. In a time of decreasing enrolment in many boards and schools,
it also allows schools  to offer courses through online that would not have sufficient numbers to run otherwise."
(Teacher)

"Students can select courses that are not offered at their school. We have provided pathway courses to students.
What has been very positive is the teachers sharing stories, emails from their students about what a positive experience
the elearning class has been for them. One of my favourites was from a student who had taken
the grade 12 writer's craft course. She told her teacher it was her favourite class she had taken in high school
and that if it such a positive experience online, she couldn't imagine how great it would have been in person."

“Online religion has been beneficial for me due to the fact that I never found the subject
enjoyable in a classroom setting, however being able to explore religious subjects
at my own pace has encouraged an interest in the course for me.”
(Student)

"Online teaching has been absolutely fantastic. It allows me to explore new technologies
that I can also apply to my regular (face-to-face) classroom. With online learning  -
the challenges are different but the rewards of seeing students succeed are the same!"
(Teacher)

“I enjoy how everything is provided for us, it allows me to gain more independence and responsibility.”
(Student)

"eLearning allows teachers to engage in digital professional development.
New eteachers can see the benefit of using tools to assist their students
to dig deeper or practice challenging elements of curricula."
(Technology Enabled Learning & Teaching Contact)

“The course is spread out and organized in a way that it is easy to follow and
easy to complete in the given time lines while still keeping focus on other classes!”
(Student)

"Students feel a sense of accomplishment when successful in an online course for the first time."
(Teacher)

“A great benefit of an online experience for a religion course is the community that it builds and
the people within the community. Our students benefit from having a
shared online experience with students from various areas of the province.”

"I have enjoyed doing online Philosophy this semester and feel that online classes are a good opportunity to provide
a course that may not be provided at school. For me this is my best class and I am fast tracking it in grade 11 and am
able to use it for one of my 6 university marks. I prefer to teach myself the content and think I learn better in this environment."
(Student)

"I enjoy online education more than I do in class. I find it is much more beneficial to work on my own and do work in my time.
I find the information sticks better that way. I find myself engaged with the content and do not fall into a note taking trance."
(Student)

"Online Religion has given me the flexibility I need where I can participate in co-curricular activities during school and not fall behind."
(Student)

"These courses continue to give students opportunities to explore courses that may not be offered by their home high schools.
It is important to give them the chance to study courses that are of interest to THEM, not necessarily us."

(Online Teacher)

"Wonderful differentiated instruction for some students who struggle with F2F format."
(Technology Enabled Learning & Teaching Contact)

"My online class is my highest mark, love the opportunity to be independent; it really helps with university preparation."
(Student)

"The students quickly learn that communication is empowering. "
